The only thing I know about this company is that they’re in Hong Kong and work in the IT sector. What attracted me to watch this video was to see how they communicated their CSR efforts. After all, nobody likes to read reports. We like summaries, and sometimes in the case of CSR, well-written press releases.
A communication designer that’s assigned to put together a great video should at least follow the Made to Stick principles of: Simple, Concrete, Credible, Emotion, and Stories. Secondly, they’ll need to consider if they’re going to produce a single comprehensive video OR multiple ones that cover different facets of the csr efforts. The difficulty in creating a single video is in presenting the content in a manner that doesn’t overwhelm the viewer with data, nor infuse too much happy-talk.
So when I saw this company’s video, I knew the budget wasn’t really very high. But I kept watching because the video counter told me 5 minutes and figured why not. The music seemed yes a little cheesy at first, even as it moved from subject to subject. But that didn’t really matter, because there were so many photos of employees involved in activities, it performed just as well (if not better than) Deloitte’s recent csr video.
